Outdoor Adventure

At Coltishall, children have opportunities to explore, play, discover nature and experience adventure outdoors.

We want pupils to develop confidence, independence and curiosity through experiences that take learning beyond the classroom.

Experience residential life

Children have opportunities to spend nights away from home as they move through the school.

These include school sleepovers in Years 3 and 5, a residential experience at Horstead in Year 4 and a further residential in Year 6.

These experiences help children develop independence, confidence and a sense of responsibility.

Experience Forest School

Forest School gives children dedicated opportunities to explore, investigate, create and take on challenges outdoors.

Children experience Forest School at different points during their time at Coltishall, developing confidence, practical skills and an appreciation of the natural world.

Play and explore outdoors

Our outdoor spaces are an important part of everyday life at Coltishall.

Children have access to extensive play opportunities, including loose parts, a mud kitchen, rope swings and equipment that encourages active, imaginative and creative play.

Explore and care for nature

Children have opportunities to discover and care for the natural world within our school grounds.

Our outdoor environment includes a wild area, pond, bird hide, wildlife habitats, school allotment and a large bee and pollinator wildflower area.

These spaces give children opportunities to observe wildlife, grow things, investigate habitats and develop an understanding of the environment around them.

Take on outdoor adventure

Children are encouraged to challenge themselves through outdoor experiences that build confidence, resilience and independence.

Our Year 4 Horstead residential provides opportunities for adventure, teamwork and trying things that may be completely new.

Discover our local environment

Children have opportunities to explore the landscapes and natural environments around us.

These include experiences linked to the Norfolk Broads and visits to local places of interest and natural beauty.
