Coltishall Primary School

Orchestra & Music

Music is an important part of the life of a Coltishall Pupil.  From Year three onwards every class has a weekly instrument lesson.  In year three and year four pupils learn to play a recorder.  In year five and year six pupils learn to play a keyboard. The curriculum is delivered through bespoke books created by Mr Marsden and printed locally.  The curriculum has been based on recommendations from the OFSTED music review July 2021.

Every pupil who receives individual or group instruction joins the Coltishall School Orchestra. Parent volunteers assist the orchestra by playing alongside the pupils.

The orchestra practises once a week and performs at a Summer and Winter Concert twice a year. The Y6 students on keyboards and the school choir also participate at the concerts.

The Orchestra is conducted by Mr Rory Marsden.  Mr Marsden also teaches whole class recorder lessons to year 3 & 4 and whole class keyboard lessons to year 5 & 6.
